The name "Deerfoot" originates from an 1880’s Blackfoot long distance runner named Api-kai-ees, who went by the name Deerfoot.  This talented athlete started his running career by easily winning his first competition, a four-day race over 175 km!  Legend says he was able to chase down a deer.
